What is Paraphimosis

Paraphimosis is a medical condition that occurs when the foreskin of the penis, once retracted, gets stuck behind the head of the penis and cannot be returned to its original position. This can lead to swelling, constriction of blood flow, pain, and potential complications if not treated promptly.

The condition typically occurs when the foreskin, after being retracted behind the head of the penis (glans), gets trapped due to swelling, leading to a tight band forming around the penis. It can cause pain, swelling, and potential tissue damage if not addressed swiftly.

Paraphimosis is considered a medical emergency and requires immediate attention from a healthcare professional. Treatment often involves manual reduction, where a healthcare provider will manipulate the foreskin to reduce the swelling and return it to its original position. In severe cases, medical interventions such as medications or minor surgical procedures might be necessary. Consult Dr. Sudhir Bhola as soon as possible to get a non surgical solution to paraphimosis.
